Black Delta Profile Picture

The Project

In the beginning of 2025 I decided I wanted to create a new profile picture to use across most of my accounts online. The picture had to be different from the image I used for 2024 but appear to be drawn in the same style as my previous profile picture.

Initial Sketches

I set to work drawing the perfect profile picture for 2025. At the time I had moderately long hair and I wanted to show it off in the picture. As you can see, the initial versions of the image did not feature the delta symbol.

The Delta

I was inspired to make this image by a baseball cap I had bought recently. The baseball cap was made by Reebok and it showed a prominent hollow triangle, the Reebok logo, on the front of the cap. I have for some time used the Greek character delta (Δ) to represent my dreams and dream journal entries. The symbol has a special significance to me, which is what moved me to buy the baseball cap. Because I used the delta symbol frequently in my journals and because I owned a baseball cap with a similar symbol on the front I decided to make an image featuring the cap and the symbol.

Editing

After creating a version of the image with the delta baseball cap I was satisfied. So I set to work preparing the image for the next round of work. I was not completely satisfied with the shape of the cap. So I edited the image in GIMP to make the shape and placement of the cap more satisfactory.

Color

Now I was ready for color. I had recently adopted the practice of using Affinity Designer to color my images. Affinity Designer works with vector-based drawings that are infinitely scalable and can be displayed at any resolution. This software makes my drawings more versatile and compatible with more displays. So I imported my drawings into Affinity Designer and traced the shapes of the drawing until it was fully colorized. I set the blend mode of most of my objects to “multiply,” I believe, and the final image showed the original drawing in full color.

The image is called “Black Delta Profile Picture” because the color scheme is mostly black and contains the “Delta” symbol.
